do fun stuff :: the little album that could

I posted about the awesomeness that is this album over at Tara on the Wander on Monday but it is worth repeating here. We've been listening (and dancing) to the album on repeat since we downloaded it.

Not only is the album full of indie music parents will enjoy as much as their kiddos will, all proceeds from the album support research for Smith Magenis Syndrome. Plus, the maker of the album is a super nice guy with a big heart and mad photography skills. This album, due to his big-hearted dedication and social media influence debuted at #1 in the Children's Music genre on iTunes -- no small feat when up against the Yo Gabba Gabba's of the world (whose marketing machine took over the number 1 slot the very next day).  I have nothing against Yo Gabba Gabba -- not at all.

But I am excited about this little album that could.

coral earrings you can feel good about wearing

Maybe because my parents anniversary tomorrow (and they are celebrating a number somewhere between the traditional gifts of coral and ruby).

Maybe because I'm seeing a whole lot of coral in the shops where I am vacationing this week.

We wandered into one of the shops and asked about a particularly stunning necklace of red branch coral. The shopkeeper quickly got out his calculator and told us the price, 60% off, was 978. Dollars. I was secretly pleased at the price that shocked my husband.

Tiffany & Co. calls coral too precious to even wear (and in their case, sell). Buying coral anything was an eco no-no back in my Aveda days. Folks seem quite a bit more eco-savvy in general these days, yet, I feel like I see coral jewelry everywhere, not just on tropical vacations.

Recommendations on eco-sites say: buy coral jewelry -- as long as it is faux coral jewelry. Or look for vintage coral beads. Buy second hand.

I went right to Etsy and wasn't disappointed.

These wire wrapped vintage pink coral cuties on are upcycled, made of re-purposed beads, and, the proceeds of their sale benefit Oxfam. For $16.

tall things pretty and recycled

Recycled Glass Balloon Vases (set of all 3)

Our new house has high ceilings and lots of shelves that make our teeny tiny everythings look miniature. So, I've been on the lookout for some bigger, taller, oversized pretty things to make us feel at home. Aren't these just the loveliest?
